Illegal mining and trafficking of gold in the Black Volta have become major issues in Ghana, posing a serious threat to the country’s environment, aquatic life, the ecosystem, and depriving Ghana of its economic benefits.

The Bui Dam, a vital hydroelectric project, is also at risk.

In this documentary, Rebekah Awuah sheds light on the precarious and harmful effects of illegal mining also known as “galamsey” in the Black Volta, impacting the national economy and the livelihoods of communities that rely on the river.
