The United States (U.S.) Embassy in Accra has donated laptops and other electronic equipment to some selected media houses and the National Media Commission in Ghana.

The Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Unit at the embassy, Chris Carlisle, said the donation would boost the capacity of journalists to engage in accountable journalism in Ghana.

“The U.S. Government supports the rule of law in Ghana and around the world. This donation to support working journalists, anti-corruption organisations, and Ghana’s main media regulator will help build capacity for stronger journalism and accountable governance in Ghana,” she said at the event at the U.S. Embassy on Tuesday.

The selected media houses include The Fourth Estate, an accountability journalism project of the Media Foundation for West Africa, and Corruption Watch, which is a non-profit news project of the Center for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana and other civil society groups.

Other organisations included the state-owned Daily Graphic, The Ghanaian Times, Ghana News Agency (GNA), and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). The National Media Commission, the media regulator in Ghana, was also given some of the equipment.
